Student Records

Baltimore County Public Schools complies with state and federal laws and regulations in matters of student record retention and disposal. Additionally, Board Policy and Superintendent’s Rule 5230 establish guidelines on the release and amendment of student records. As defined by Superintendent’s Rule 5230, student records include those records that are directly related to a student and maintained by BCPS or by a party acting for BCPS.

The Maryland Student Records System Manual contains explicit direction concerning the minimum retention periods for certain student records. The Records Management Team has incorporated the Maryland Student Records System Manual’s retention periods into a schedule approved by the Maryland State Archives. (See, Schedule C1482, Student Records.)
