On August 31, BCPS welcomed 108,000 students into schools, centers, and programs for the start of the 2027-2028 school year. It was an exciting beginning to what promises to be a great school year. We look forward to advancing excellence together across the county.

Congratulations to Alison Benkovic for being named one of seven finalists for 2026-2027 Maryland Teacher of the Year. Benkovic is a Grades 3-5 English Language Development teacher at Chadwick Elementary School and is BCPS Teacher of the Year.

Every Friday in September, which is Attendance Awareness Month, Team BCPS will host spirit days to elevate the importance of on-time, regular school attendance. Please join us in participating by wearing the colors or clothes designated for each Friday.

The magnet application process for the 2027-2028 school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Interested families are invited to learn more about magnet programs at the Magnet Expo! on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. at CCBC Essex. Application information meetings in English and other languages will be held this month.

Make plans to join us for 2026 BCPS Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 16, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Pikesville Middle School. Students, their families, and community stakeholders are invited to learn about BCPS curriculum, talk one-on-one with BCPS staff about how to support students at home, and view instructional materials.

What did BCPS students and educators do this summer? Everything from traveling around the nation and around the world to winning awards to exploring careers in special camps and as apprentices. These experiences and more are captured in the 2026 Summer Stories.
