INTRODUCTION

The Office of Health Education is in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, Department of Academics, partnered with the Office of Physical Education. The Office of Health Education is responsible for designing and maintaining the health education curriculum in Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS). 


Additionally, the Office of Health Education:

  • Provides professional development to health education teachers.
  • Supplies instructional resources to support the curriculum.
  • Cooperates with other curriculum content offices to provide cross-curricular connections.
  • Collaborates with the Department of School Safety and other BCPS offices to deliver drug abuse, violence prevention, and mental health content.
  • Administers grant programs, as available, to enhance the health education program.
  • Collaborates with other county offices and outside community agencies to support the health education program.
  • Participates in the BCPS School Health Council, which directs the implementation of the BCPS Wellness Policy, reviews materials for the instructional program, and facilitates the collaboration among stakeholders in the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Model.


VISION

The Office of Health Education believes a relevant and effective health education curriculum is critical in moving toward its vision of a community of citizens who are health literate. The health-literate individual possesses the capacity to obtain, interpret, and understand basic health information and services and the competence to use this knowledge in ways which enhance personal and community wellness.

 

MISSION


To provide effective education designed to motivate and assist all students to maintain and/or improve their health and safety and reduce injury and disease-related risks.


GOAL

The delivery of a planned, sequential K-12 instructional program based on sound research that includes a strong performance base of skills and abilities within the content of current and future health and safety issues.
