June 14, 2023, Staff Update: New Organizational Chart and Realignment of Central Office
Dear Colleagues:
I am excited and ready to work in close partnership with all members of Team BCPS. I understand and appreciate the high level of trust that has been placed in me to lead this important work of increasing academic achievement and improving climate, morale, and operational efficiency. This urgent work started last night with a presentation to the Board on the realignment of central office to focus our resources of people, time, and funding closer to schools to create experiences that enable all students to achieve improved learning outcomes. We are reimagining our leadership structure to strengthen the coordination, collaboration and strategic support for schools and offices. The Fiscal Year 2024 organizational structure, which was approved by the Board and strategically aligns our work and focus on teaching and learning, includes the following changes:
New Roles
- Chief Operating Officer who will ensure smooth and efficient operations to schools.
- Executive Director of School Support and Improvement to lead a team that provides direct, differentiated support to 15 Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) and Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) schools.
- Executive Director for High Schools to provide additional time and support for principal supervisors to coach, guide and help high school principals improve instruction to meet the needs of our students.
Realignment
The following departments have been moved to align resources closer to schools:
- The Department of Equity and Cultural Proficiency will now report to the Chief of Staff.
- The Office of Data, Research, Accountability, and Assessment will now report to the Chief Operating Officer.
- The Department of Organizational Development and Social-Emotional Support and Health Services will now report to the Chief of Schools.
I believe these new roles as well as the streamlined central office and leadership structure will make us more efficient and effective in serving our students, staff, schools and community.
I look forward to our continued work together on behalf of our students.
In partnership,
Dr. Myriam Yarbrough
Deputy Superintendent
