March 29, 2023 Community Update: Summer 2023 Work Schedules

Information for 2022-23

March 29, 2023, Community Update: Summer 2023 Work Schedules

From July 10, 2023, through August 4, 2023, eligible Team BCPS staff will be provided with flexible work options including a compressed work week and/or remote Mondays or Fridays. All staff who work remotely shall be accessible telephonically, via electronic meeting platform, and/or by email during their assigned school’s or office’s regular operating hours.  Additionally, principals working remotely must be able to respond to emergencies in their buildings and should be able to access their buildings within an hour of notification.

Staff members who elect to participate in any flexible summer work option must submit their request to supervisors in writing no later than April 17, 2023.

If a staff member elects to participate in the remote option, the Baltimore County Public Schools Telework Agreement must be submitted to their supervisor no later than April 28, 2023. Staff members may choose to work remotely on either Mondays or Fridays, and their choice must remain the same throughout the summer.

If a staff member elects to participate in the compressed work week, leave time usage will be impacted. Leave time will vary based upon the total number of hours worked in a week. For example, if a staff member works 7.5 hours per day, the total for the week is 37.5 hours. During a compressed work week, the staff member would work 9.375 hours per day for four days, equal to 37.5 hours for the week. Should the staff member take leave during the compressed work week, the hours of leave would equal 9.375 hours per day. Employees who choose to work a compressed work week will have the flexibility to start up to one hour earlier than their regularly scheduled hours. For example, if a staff members regularly scheduled hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., their compressed work week schedule can start as early as 7:30 a.m. Staff members may choose their “off day” of the compressed work week to be Mondays or Fridays, and their choice must remain the same throughout the summer.

All schools and offices will remain open and staffed with in-person assistance, Monday through Friday. Supervisors will be responsible for approving remote and/or compressed days to ensure offices are appropriately covered.
