May 9, 2025 Staff Update: FY 2026 Operating Budget Update (Employee Compensation)
Dear Team BCPS Staff –
I am writing to provide an additional update on the Fiscal Year 2026 operating budget. Yesterday, May 8, I confirmed with state and county officials that there are additional funds available to BCPS for FY26. We will use this funding for employee compensation. We are actively working to identify additional options and are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to further decrease the gap and finalize the FY26 operating budget.
I want to reaffirm my commitment to ensuring that the valued members of Team BCPS are compensated at a rate that allows us to continue making positive progress on behalf of our 110,000 students and remain competitive with neighboring counties. The efforts of our entire workforce are creating conditions for student success and helping to move our system forward. As I have shared throughout this budget process, difficult decisions have been made at all levels of the system. We have strived to minimize the impact felt at the school level and move resources even closer to schools. We have kept the leadership of our employee associations updated and appreciate their feedback and willingness to come to the table for these difficult conversations. By working together, we will develop solutions that will benefit all members of Team BCPS.
