March 8, 2022 Community Update: New Adjustments to BCPS’ COVID-19 Plan

March 8, 2022 Community Update: Adjustments to BCPS’ COVID-19 Plan

Dear  Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Students:
As COVID-19 metrics continue to improve across the state and county, Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) will adjust its COVID-19 mitigation strategies and requirements. These decisions will be made in collaboration with county health officials and health experts from Johns Hopkins University and University of Maryland who conduct frequent and thorough reviews of health metrics and COVID-19 transmission rates in Baltimore County. The following changes will go into effect immediately.

Optional COVID-19 Testing for Staff and Student Athletes
Unvaccinated BCPS staff, student athletes, and students participating in extracurricular activities will no longer be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing. BCPS will continue to partner with CIAN Diagnostics to offer optional weekly testing at various sites throughout the county. Tests will continue to be offered at no cost to staff and students through the end of the school year.

Visitors and Volunteers in School Buildings
Visitors and volunteers can resume in-person visits to schools. All visitors/volunteers must follow COVID-19 safety protocols in place at the time of their visit/activity. All visitors must follow sign-in and sign-out procedures, as directed by the school, at the main office.

Athletics Capacity
There will be no restrictions on spectator capacity for all spring athletic events and other extracurricular activities. Tickets for athletic events must be purchased through TicketSpicket.

School Events and Celebrations
All BCPS high schools will host traditional indoor and outdoor activities to recognize the academic and athletic achievements of the Class of 2022. Additionally, schools are planning to host Spring concerts, plays, recognition events, and end-of-year celebrations. School-specific information about these events will be shared with communities in the coming weeks.

Our COVID-19 plan and procedures will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and adjusted as needed. The latest version of the district’s comprehensive mitigation plan, Safety is Our True North, is available on the COVID-19 website.

Thank you for your support as we work to safely resume activities and celebrations.
