Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,
According to weather forecasts, some parts of the state may experience inclement weather overnight and into Friday morning. As we continue to monitor the forecast, we want to provide you with an update on where we are with inclement weather days and potential changes to the school year calendar. BCPS has used all five of the inclement weather days allotted for this school year. If BCPS schools are closed for one more inclement weather day, the school year will be extended from Thursday, June 16 to Friday, June 17.
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has provided school systems with an opportunity to repurpose inclement weather days as virtual school days for the 2021-2022 school year only. The BCPS Virtual Inclement Weather proposed plan was presented to the Board of Education on February 8 and then submitted to MSDE for approval. MSDE has approved the BCPS plan and any future virtual instruction days will count towards the minimum required days of instruction under Maryland law
When inclement weather is predicted, BCPS will notify families if it will transition to virtual learning. Students and staff will be reminded to bring devices, chargers and other instructional materials home.
Important Notes About Virtual School Days:
- To allow time for students and staff to adjust, log in and access resources on an inclement weather virtual learning day, instruction will begin two hours later than the school’s normal bell schedule. Students in the Virtual Learning Program will begin their school day at the normal start time.
- Principals will communicate the day’s instructional schedule and other school specific information.
- Students unable to access instruction will receive an excused absence and be given the opportunity to make up the missed work.
