BCPS remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that every child – regardless of background, language, or country of origin – receives a world-class education in a safe, welcoming environment. While BCPS must abide by federal and state laws, we do not inquire about a student’s immigration status. All children have a right to equal access to a free public education, regardless of the immigration status of the child or their parent/guardian. The 1982 Supreme Court ruling in Plyler v. Doe ensures that right.
Baltimore County is rich in history and diversity and our students represent more than 138 countries and speak nearly 150 languages. This diversity is one of our strengths.
BCPS will continue to closely monitor developments at the local, state and federal level, and work with county and state partners to provide resources and updates that address the needs of our school communities.
