Student film, poster entries accepted now for 2018 BCPS Film Expo

TOWSON – Enough with the sequels already! Isn’t it time for some great new American films? Let’s see if a Baltimore County Public Schools student can create one.

High school and middle school student filmmakers are invited to enter their work in the 2018 BCPS Film Expo. Students also can compete to design a poster to promote the film expo.

A diverse panel of judges will evaluate each high school entry and select first, second, third place, and honorable mention awards to be given in five categories including: live action narratives, documentary films, animation, experimental films, and animated GIFs. Middle School entries also will compete for first, second, third place, and honorable mention awards. The BCPS Film Expo is a collaboration between the BCPS Offices of Visual Arts, Digital Learning, and Career and Technology Education, and is made possible in part by the sponsorship of The Education Foundation of BCPS.

Students interested in submitting films or GIFs should register first through a sponsoring art teacher. Only five (live action narrative, documentary, animation, and experimental) films and five GIFs will be accepted per high school. All submissions are limited to 10 minutes in length, and they must conform to the BCPS code of ethics and standards of acceptable use and propriety. All copyrighted music and images featured in the films must be properly licensed. More information including submission requirements, guidelines, registration, tutorials, and resources are available on the BCPS Film Expo website. The deadline for film/GIF entries is Friday, Feb. 9.

Poster entries also must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 9, and should be emailed to Alex Garove at agarove@bcps.org. Posters must include the following: BCPS FILM EXPO 2018, Thursday, April 12th, At the Historic Senator Theater, 5 – 9 p.m., bcpsfilmexpo.org, and the film expo logo. Entries should be submitted as .tiff files, and the posters should be at least 12" x 18" at 300 ppi.

The culmination of the competition will be a film showing and awards ceremony on Thursday, April 12, from 5 – 9 p.m. at the Historic Senator Theater in Baltimore.
