BCPS wins eight national awards for communications

Top awards were earned for the school system’s blog and a social media campaign

TOWSON, MD. – Baltimore County Public Schools earned eight 2020 communications awards from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), including two awards of excellence, the association’s highest honors.

“We are so proud of our communications team for its extraordinary work,” said Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “The team, which works under the leadership of Chief of Staff Mychael Dickerson, demonstrates every day its commitment to excellence and to our students and staff.”

“Perhaps now more than ever, we recognize the critical importance of communications in engaging stakeholders, supporting academic growth, and celebrating our successes,” said Dickerson. “Our school system is enriched by its talented team of communications professionals who are always seeking new and more effective ways to share timely information."

In the NSPRA Publications and Digital Media Awards competition, BCPS received the following awards:

Awards of Excellence
Blog – Team BCPS blog, Diana L. Spencer, Communications Officer
Social Media – BCPS Ethics Awards, Brandon Oland, Communications Specialist
Awards of Merit
Branding/Image Package – BCPS Community School/Lansdowne High School, Brian Hiles, Digital Media and Design Specialist
E-Newsletter (External Audience) – Team BCPS E-newsletter, Diana L. Spencer, Communications Officer
Honorable Mentions

The awards will be recognized during the 2020 NSPRA Virtual Celebration of Achievement, to be held on Facebook and YouTube Friday, July 17, at 3 p.m. EDT.

The NSPRA Publications and Digital Media Awards annual competition recognizes the outstanding communications efforts of private and public schools and school systems across the nation. The competition features 18 categories, including annual reports, digital media programs, radio/TV programs, social media, and blogs.
