BCPS invites students to take a Summer Learning Hike

Online learning opportunity open to all BCPS students beginning today!

TOWSON, MD. – Is your child eager to learn, up for adventure, and willing to wonder? If so, come along! Baltimore County Public Schools invites all students to go on a Summer Learning Hike!

Beginning Monday, June 22, BCPS is offering a free, 10-week online learning opportunity for BCPS students. Called the BCPS Summer Learning Hike, the customized online programs are based on a student’s most recent grade level (Preschool through Grade 11) and will continue through Friday, August 28.

“We want the Summer Learning Hike to be both fun and beneficial to every student who joins us on this journey,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “Especially because of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic this school year, it is important that children review the lessons they learned this past academic year, and that they be prepared and ready when schools reopen. The Summer Learning Hike provides an engaging and enjoyable way to do just that.”

The Summer Learning Hike is voluntary, and no grades will be assigned. Students simply need to log onto either the BCPS website or on to BCPSOne, click the Summer Learning Hike link, and select the online program for their grade level. Students selected for traditional Summer School programs from July 6-31 are also welcome to join the Summer Learning Hike.

Customized hikes, which are available in a variety of languages for most grade levels, include:

  • Preschool and PreKindergarten – Reading Eggs (recommended 60 minutes per week)
  • Grades K-5 – Exact Path for reading and mathematics (recommended 90 minutes per week)
  • Grades 6-11 –Tutorials for English language arts and mathematics (recommended 120 minutes per week)
The Summer Learning Hike is student-directed, but real-time assistance will be available through “Trail Guides” on workdays beginning Monday, June 22. Through BCPSOne Support, students and their families will be able to contact BCPS math and English language arts teachers on Google Meet. Tech support will also be available online and by phone at 443-809-4672.
