Pleasant Plains and Halstead Academy Participate in "EPIC" Living Flag Event

Grade 5 students from Pleasant Plains and Halstead Academy along with approximately 6,600 other students from across the state converged on Fort McHenry to create a Living Flag as part of the celebration of the bicentennial of the national anthem. Students wore red, white and blue rain ponchos to create the giant "living" flag.

Throughout the day, students got to participate in several other educational programs, including viewing the story of the Battle of Baltimore on the big screen and interacting with park rangers to learn more about the area's past.

This history-making event will be something the fifth graders will remember for years to come.

The Living Flag Event is one of many commemorating the 200th anniversary of the writing of the "Star-Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key in Baltimore's harbor.
