White Oak School "Sparkles" as "Reading Under the Stars" Night Soars
2nd Annual Reading Night of Family Learning

White Oak School had record-breaking attendance for their highly anticipated "Reading Under the Stars" evening.  To assist with the celebration, White Oak School, in conjunction with the nationally acclaimed Pajama Program, coordinated their efforts in order for each child to receive a brand new pair of winter pajamas.  Students wore their pajamas and carried their favorite stuffed animal to fun-filled stations.

Students, families, and the Parkville High School football players united to participate in engaging reading and movement activities. The library was transformed into an outdoor camping event with lights draped over the beams, and tents lit with lanterns while students read to family and friends.  Special guest readers and visitors included:  Mrs. Jane Lichter, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools – Zone 3, our four-legged friends from Pets on Wheels, and our entertaining White Oak Wildcat mascot.  Families enjoyed a tasty campfire meal, which included hot dogs and make-your-own S'Mores followed by hiking through the "Whittle Woods".

At the conclusion of the event, students were seen leaving with big smiles on their faces and bags full of goodies.  Some of the goodies included pencils and stickers, lanyards with flashlights, bookmarks, and books.  Parent comments included, 'We were super excited to see the football players visit and interact with our children again,'  'We loved the idea of our children reading to the dogs' and 'We truly enjoyed the evening.'
