Sollers Point Technical High School's Academy of Health Professions boards the USNS Comfort

The USNS Comfort, a navy hospital ship that provides emergency, on-site care for U.S. combatant forces and individuals living in impoverished countries, welcomed 32 nursing assistant students from Sollers Point Technical High School's Academy of Health Professions aboard for a tour on Wednesday, January 30, 2013.

During the two-hour trip, the USNS Comfort crew guided the students through explorations of the emergency room, the operating room, the recovery room, and several isolation rooms. Additionally, students visited other areas of the ship, including the intensive care unit, the pharmacy, the laboratory, and the central sterile processing department.

The field trip closed with a lesson on the history of the ship, stories from the naval crew about their past missions, and a discussion of educational and work opportunities available to the nursing assistant students.
