Listening to the community about Eastwood, Norwood, and Holabird

The Board of Education of Baltimore County met with Dundalk area parents and teachers on Tuesday, February 12, to hear the community's views on the proposed consolidation of Eastwood Center Elementary Magnet School with Norwood Elementary School and Holabird Middle School.

Much of the comment at the public hearing, which was held at Dundalk High School, centered on the proposed closing of Eastwood. Board members are scheduled to take action on the plan at their March 5 meeting.

The proposal from Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance calls for consolidating Eastwood and Norwood elementary schools with Holabird Middle School to create a regional K-8 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academy at the adjacent Norwood and Holabird campuses.

The public hearing was consistent with the Board's emphasis on enhancing opportunities for public comment and inclusion in the decision-making process. The Board also has accepted written comment and data related to the issue.
