High school students perform honors concert at Meyerhoff Hall

Before an audience of more than 1,000 family, friends, teachers, and administrators, more than 270 Baltimore County Public Schools students took the stage at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on November 15 to perform at the school system’s annual High School Honors Concert.

Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston and County Executive Jim Smith briefly joined the students on stage to congratulate them for their achievements in music and to praise music education in the school system. (The NAMM Foundation named Baltimore County Public Schools one of the nation’s "Best Communities for Music Education" in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.)

spotlightThe Monday evening concert, which earned standing ovations, included performances by the honors orchestra, chorus, and band. Performing students participated in a rigorous audition process to be selected.
Conductors for the concert included: Dr. Jennifer Sacher Wiley, associate professor, Susquehanna University; Jana Ballard, choir director, LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts; and Dr. Rodney Dorsey, assistant professor, University of Michigan. Mark Malinowski, an announcer with WBJC, served as the guest narrator.
