Haiku Contest

The 2020 theme is hero.

New deadline: April 10 at 4:45 p.m.

We are no longer able to accept through interoffice mail.

Timeline

  • One winner announced at the elementary, middle, and high school levels: May 1
  • Book of selected haiku with artwork distributed in fall 2020

Prizes: The elementary, middle, and high school winner will receive a prize package including gifts from The Ivy Bookshop and Ukazoo Books and game tickets from the Baltimore Orioles.

What is a haiku?
A traditional Japanese poem that consists of three lines:

The first line has five syllables.
The second line has seven syllables.
The third line has five syllables.

Tips!

  • One entry per student.
  • Don’t include a title. Titles will not be read.
  • Use the theme: hero
  • Describe!
