TalkingPoints: Connecting Families and Schools
What is TalkingPoints?
TalkingPoints is a two-way multilingual communication platform. It is a free, easy, and secure way for families to communicate with their child’s teachers in their home language. Baltimore County school staff use this platform to share important information about students’ education and progress directly with parents.
How Does It Work?
Students and parent contacts are automatically rostered through Focus, the student information system.
- Teachers do not need to enter any information; it’s already done for them.
- Parents do not need to sign up or take any action; they are automatically included.
How Can Families Use TalkingPoints?
Families can receive and respond to messages in two ways:
- Text Messages or App Notifications
Messages will be sent to the phone number registered in Focus as an SMS text or through the TalkingPoints Parent App.
- Replying to Messages
Families can reply by text or through the app. Messages are automatically translated into English for the school.
Language Support
- Families receive messages in the home language listed in Focus.
- Replies in any language are translated for teachers and school staff.
Opt-Out Option
Parents can reply with “GOODBYE” at any time to stop receiving messages.
