Magnet programs are theme-related curricula and instructional programs that
are not available as comprehensive school program options; serve as incubators
for innovative instructional practices; draw students across student attendance
boundaries, in accordance with state-rated capacity; and are accessed through a
centralized application and admissions process.

Magnet programs will assist students in becoming globally competitive citizens by providing unique educational choice options aligned with students’ interests, talents, and abilities.
Mission Statement:
Magnet programs will enhance students’ educational experiences and academic performance by providing unique learning environments, innovative instructional programs, and specialized programs of study and/or experiences that extend and enrich the existing BCPS curricula, promote student diversity*, and align with evolving community and industry/business needs.
Purpose:
-Provide elementary, middle, and high school students and parents with public school choice options that are different from those generally offered in other district schools under Policy and Superintendent's Rule 6400;
-Address students’ interests, talents, and abilities through specialized programs of study and/or experiences in unique educational environments;
-Provide relevant educational opportunities aligned with evolving community and industry/business needs.
-Serve as incubators for innovative instruction that extends and enriches curricula; and
-Promote student diversity* by providing equitable access and opportunities across magnet programs and schools.
* As defined by the Board, diversity includes racial, ethnic, economic, gender, and special needs populations.
