The Office of Health and Physical Education represents two content areas for Grades PreK-12, providing relevant and effective curricular programs, professional development, assessments, and instructional support to teachers based on current research and best practices. These programs collectively assist students in developing the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains and address current and major public health concerns. Health and physical education programs provide content-related opportunities for students to understand and apply personal decisions and to access resources to maintain and enhance their health and fitness for a lifetime.

Health Education Mission Statement

 

The Office of Health is responsible for grades PreK-12 content. The office provides relevant and effective curricular programs, professional learning, aligned assessments, and instructional support to teachers based on current research and best practices. Health content addresses both individual and public health considerations. All health programs provide content related opportunities for students to understand and apply personal decision-making and to access valid and reliable resources to maintain and enhance their health for a lifetime.

Physical Education Mission Statement

 

The Office of Physical Education’s mission is to support and advocate for sequential and developmentally appropriate high quality physical education programs that empower all students to value physical activity and become physically literate for a lifetime. Physically literate students (1) develop the motivation and ability to understand, communicate, apply, and analyze various forms of movement, (2) demonstrate a variety of movements competently and confidently across a wide range of physical activities, (3) make healthy active choices that are both beneficial to and respectful of themselves, others, and their
environment.
