Student Member of the Board Selection

SMOB Application InviteThe student member of the board of education serves a term of one year and provides an informed student viewpoint to the Board of Education of Baltimore County. The student member must respect the diversity of students’ points of view and develop a position that will be consistent with the best interest of all Baltimore County students. The student member is an official member of the Board of Education and, by statute, has a partial vote. The student member votes on all issues except collective bargaining, school openings and closings, and boundaries. 

Each high school principal in Baltimore County can nominate up to two (2) candidates to apply for Student Member of the Board. Only students who are current sophomores or juniors are eligible to apply. 

Applicants are required to read the application instructions and timeline carefully before submitting their online application. Ap
plicants are asked to review the documents below in order to prepare and learn about the SMOB role. You can also learn more about our current SMOB here.

For the 2026-2027 term, the Student Member of the Board Application will open on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 9:00 am. The deadline to submit applications will be Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:59 pm. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Please review the application instructions and timeline carefully before submitting your application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Once students have prepared all documentation and spoken with their principal to confirm their nomination, they may complete the online application. A link will be available below. After the application window closes, we invite all secondary students to return here to view the ongoing process and participate in voting! Please note that the application for 2026-2027 term has closed.

This link will go live on April 23rd at 7:00 AM! Voting will be open until 11:59 PM. Any votes received after the cutoff will not be counted. Students must be logged in under their BCPS credentials to access. 
Please note that any elementary students, staff, or other BCPS account holders who complete the voting form will have their submission removed.
