Relief Strategies Update in the Northeast Area

At its meeting on March 6, 2018, the Board of Education of Baltimore County (Board) approved new elementary school boundaries for schools in the northeast area of the county to help relieve persistent overcrowding among area elementary schools. 

  • The Board approved the boundary committee’s recommended Option C. 
  • These boundaries will be effective for the 2018-2019 school year, in coordination with the opening of the Northeast Area Elementary School

Note regarding Vincent Farm ES:  Vincent Farm Elementary School was involved in both the Victory Villa ES Boundary Study (Approved June 13, 2017), and this Northeast Area Elementary Study.  The Approved Option C below now reflects updates from both processes

Schools affected by in the Northeast Area Elementary Community Boundary Study include:

  • Carney Elementary School
  • Chapel Hill Elementary School
  • Gunpowder Elementary School
  • Joppa View Elementary School
  • Oakleigh Elementary School
  • Perry Hall Elementary School
  • Seven Oaks Elementary School
  • Vincent Farm Elementary School

Boundary Study Committee and Recommendation

A committee comprised of school representatives, parents, and community members met six times between September 6 and December 6, 2017. Meetings were open for the public to observe. A Public Information Session was held on October 25, 2017 attended by about 150 persons.  468 persons completed an online survey regarding options under consideration by the committee between  October 25 and November 8, 2017. The committee's work and all related information about the boundary process can be found below. Links to video recordings of each meeting can be found next to each meeting date.

The Boundary Study Committee concluded its work on December 6, 2017.  The Committee recommended Option C move forward to the Board of Education for consideration.

Boundary Study Committee Meetings are Livestreamed, and can be accessed via the link at each meeting header or the BCPS Livestream page during the meeting.
