November 19, 2025 Staff and Community Update: Second Marking Period--Important Reminders for Team BCPS

The second marking period is underway! Here are some important reminders for Team BCPS students and families as we approach the end of the calendar year.

Academics and Attendance
BCPS is committed to advancing academic progress for all. We encourage parents and caregivers to review the grade and attendance reports that are sent every Friday via Focus and Schoology and connect with your child’s school for any needed support. Consistent attendance is key to student success!  Students are expected to attend all classes on time each day, actively participating in discussions and activities and completing assignments. BCPS encourages parents and caregivers to support their child in being Here for It! Our attendance initiative offers students, parents, and educators’ valuable resources, tools and tips to help decrease barriers to regular school attendance.

Cell Phones--Off and Away

The BCPS cell phone use and expectations plan for 2025-26 is in effect. Cell phone use is prohibited during the instructional day in all BCPS elementary and middle schools other than for school-sanctioned uses or times. Cell phones and school time don’t mix!

  • All students should have phones OFF and AWAY during instructional time.
  • Headphones/ear buds, smartwatches, or other similar wearable technology are prohibited unless used for a specific instructional purpose.
  • Students who need personal devices for medical needs MUST have this documented in a 504 Plan, Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or Individualized Health Classroom Plan. Students may ONLY use their phone for the stated purpose in the plan.

Cell phone use is restricted during the instructional day in all BCPS high schools and may be allowed for specific times or uses.

As a reminder, students and/or their families assume all risk and liability for damage, theft, or loss of personal technology. Additionally, recording students or staff with cell phones violates BCPS policy and students who use devices to record disruptions of any kind are subject to disciplinary action.

School Safety and Security

BCPS utilizes a multi-tiered approach for managing school safety and providing welcoming learning environments that foster positive student growth. School safety is a shared responsibility, and when we work together and commit to upholding our roles, we create safe and welcoming spaces where students can maximize learning and experience all that our schools have to offer. Dangerous and disruptive behaviors will not be tolerated in our schools or on our buses. Please take a moment to review outlined expectations and guidelines in the BCPS Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
