Gearing Up for the 2024-2025 School Year!

Dear Team BCPS,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! Working together, we can ensure that this is another year of growth and achievement for Baltimore County Public Schools’ students. 

We hope you had a restful summer and are excited for all that is to come. Our staff have worked all summer preparing for the return of students and we are confident that this will be an exceptional year thanks to the dedication of our more than 20,000 committed staff, strong partners dedicated to investing in our students, and supportive and engaged families. Please know that we continue to seek your involvement as we make this school system a great place to learn and work!

Wishing you all the best for the 2024-2025 school year. Below, please find some additional information that I hope will be helpful as you and your family begin this exciting new school year!

Important Dates to Know!

As the summer break winds down, here are some important dates you need to know:

  • Saturday, August 17 BCPSFest!

    From 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, 938 York Rd., Towson, 21204, we will hold BCPSfest, our annual, systemwide back-to-school festival. Join us for free, family-friendly fun, resources, and information.

  • Monday, August 21  –  Student transportation assignments will be available in Focus. 

  • Thursday, August 22  Early Entry Day for Grades 6 and 9

    Students will tour their new schools and meet teachers and administrators. If your child is entering Grade 6 or 9, expect to receive more information soon from your child's school.


  • Monday, August 26 - First day of School for Grades 1-12

  • Wednesday, August 28 First full day of Kindergarten

The Checklist: Getting Ready for the 2024-2025 School Year!

The 2024-2025 school year begins on August 26! Here are some tips to prepare and support your elementary and secondary students.

  • Create a myBCPS account for parents/guardians access to the Focus parent portal and Schoology. Focus is a web-based system that allows parents to monitor their child’s grades and assignments and stay in touch with teachers.

  • Complete your child’s Student Emergency Information Form in Focus or at their home school so you’re contacted about school closings, illnesses, and important updates. Be sure to let the school know if your information changes during the school year.

  • View, print, or download the 2024-2025 school year calendar and stay informed on important dates and events.

  • Review the Student Transportation Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and Student Handbook prior to the first day of school. View the Student Handbook presentation.

  • Plan to attend back-to-school activities at your children’s schools.

  • Attend Curriculum Night on Oct. 1 at Chesapeake High School.

  • Learn about Parent University and consider participating in an upcoming workshop and/or event.

  • Stay connected with BCPS throughout the school year:
