The Department of Equity and Cultural Proficiency (DECP) believes to obtain equitable outcomes in our system, we must provide authentic relationships, rooted in humanity and grounded in compassion and dignity.

Our Mission


The mission of DECP is to build the capacity of teachers, leaders, and staff to create inclusive environments that honor every person's race, ability, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, (including gender expression), language, immigration status, and socio-economic status in order to increase achievement for all students and to provide a variety of pathways to prepare students for college and careers. 

Our Vision


DECP promotes systems and structures that provide support for all BCPS students, teachers, leaders, staff, and community members in which equity and access are embedded in all areas of academic programs, social-emotional supports and business operations.
