September 15, 2022, 2022 Community Update: Partnering for Safety
Dear BCPS Families, Staff and Community Members,
As we begin a new school year, it is important to remind the Team BCPS community of the importance of providing safe learning environments. Parents/guardians, you play an important role in our efforts to provide a safe and nurturing school environment. Please review the reminders below and have conversations with your children about expectations for their behavior in our schools and on the bus.
- Anyone who sees or hears something that concerns them should report it to a teacher or administrator immediately.
- Parents: Encourage your children to talk to you about things they hear or witness that concern them.
- Any item that is a weapon or looks like a weapon of any kind is not permitted on school property, on a school bus, while traveling to or from school, or while participating in school activities.
- Parents: Consider checking the bookbags and backpacks of your children to make sure that no restricted items are brought to school.
- TikTok challenges often lead to disruptive and destructive behaviors that can result in disciplinary consequences and/or criminal charges. Participation in any of these activities, such as the Orbeez Challenge, will not be tolerated.
- Parents: Talk to your children about not engaging in behaviors that might seem fun or funny but can bring harm to themselves, harm to others, or harm to property.
- Students should not hold open nor open exterior doors for anyone. Visitors must be screened before they are granted entry.
- Parents: Please do not hold doors open for other visitors and make sure doors close securely behind you when you leave a building.
- Students who believe that they are being bullied should report the behaviors to a teacher or administrator.
- Parents: You can also report bullying behaviors directly in Focus now by clicking on the Forms icon on the left side bar. A copy of the form and a printable version of the Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation Reporting form may be found on the BCPS website Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation.
Thank you for partnering with us as we work to provide safe and welcoming environments for all students.
