Artist Statement

Amber Triplett is a senior at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts and, at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, her digital art piece "Blue Eyes" was named best of show at the 27th Annual High School Art Exhibit at Goucher College's Rosenberg Gallery. Below is her artist's statement for "Blue Eyes."

I've spent all my life searching for something I could do well, something that showed the world one person can make that difference no matter how small or how big that may be. I wanted to find my place and prove to myself and my family that I am so much more than just someone who enjoyed art. Everyone has their own ideas and imagination; you just have to be open-minded and trust that you will eventually get there. You may reach for the moon and end up in the stars never knowing you had it in you.

At first digital art seemed so hard and I always doubted myself, but I was done with giving up and I needed to give myself a little more credit. Throughout my experience as a multimedia student, I discovered so many new and amazing opportunities. Realizing that it was not about how hard something may seem or how long it will take you to get there... it was about remembering who I am and why I am here, being patient and knowing my purpose in life. Never give up, no matter how hard you get knocked down, you will always come back even stronger.

After I entered in my first art show, I won an award for first place in multimedia. Even though it was at my own school, I know you need to walk before you can run. I felt proud of myself and it gave me faith that I will make it and I can do better as long as I set my mind to it. I never wanted to do this for a living because of the money or the fame; I wanted to do it for a sense of accomplishment.

There is one person who has inspired me to create the art I do today, and his name is Alberto Seveso. Alberto is not just my inspiration because he is good at what he does, but also because he focuses on many styles and mediums of art, which is something I enjoy doing. I love how he can turn something simple into something completely overwhelming and beautiful. Alberto is an amazing artist, and he inspires me to do better and to accomplish my goals. Ever since I discovered his work, I have found who I really am as an artist, and I will push myself until I get there.
