Steven DiBerardino

Student Spotlight is a regularly-updated feature that highlights students involved in special Baltimore County Public Schools activities, such as camps, student councils and more. Spotlighted students receive and answer a series of questions through which they share their experiences from their respective activities. In this Student Spotlight, Steven DiBerardino, a student from Hereford High School and participant in the Hereford Zone Robotics Summer Camp, discusses his past and future as related to robotics.

Student SpotlightQ: How long have you been involved with robotics?
A: I have been involved for over four years.

Q: Are you on a robotics team? If so, which one, and what is your proudest team accomplishment?
A: Yes, I am on team 929W. Our proudest accomplishment was reaching the Vex Robotics World Championships two years in a row as a team.

Q: Does robotics relate to your future college and career plans?
A: Yes, robotics does relate to my future college and career goals.

Q: What have you learned from being involved in robotics?
A: I've learned a lot about programming basics and mechanical concepts.

Q: Is this your first time at a robotics summer camp?
A: No, I have attended robotics summer camps in the past.

Q: If a student has never participated in robotics, what would you say to encourage him or her to try it?
A: I would say that robotics competitions not only teach you mechanical and computer concepts, which may be useful in your future, but robotics also teaches teamwork and planning skills.

Q: Aside from robotics camp, what else have you done or will you do this summer?
A: This summer, I'm going to a Boy Scouts summer camp, participating in a Youth Theater of Northern Baltimore County musical performance and taking a trip to Ocean City.

Q: What are some of your other interests, academic or personal, besides robotics?
A: I like theater technology, playing the trumpet and bicycling.
