Ngoc “Nikki” Cayas, Scrabble Club member

Student Spotlight is a regularly-updated feature that highlights students involved in special Baltimore County Public Schools activities, such as camps, student councils and more. What is Scrabble?
Scrabble is a word game that uses a lot of strategies.

How did you become interested in Scrabble?
My older sister Hien was in Scrabble Club and said that it was an interesting game.

When did you join the Scrabble Club? 
I joined the Scrabble Club in October 2012.

What do you do as a member of the Scrabble Club?
I play Scrabble and have fun!

What accomplishment in a game of Scrabble are you most proud of?
I have a high score of 196.

How has the Scrabble Club and the game Scrabble helped you as a student?
I’ve learned lots of new words. I didn’t know that “qi” was a word.

Would you encourage other students to join Victory Villa Elementary School’s Scrabble Club or start one at their own schools?
I would encourage other students, because it gets the children to learn more while enjoying a fun game.

Besides Scrabble, what are your other interests?
I like reading and math. My favorite book is “Charlotte’s Web.”

What other activities are you involved in at your school?
I’m also a member of the 24 Club.

What are your hopes for this school year? 
I hope to get good grades!
