Celebrating Our 2018 Graduating Seniors

We will be posting a new graduating senior profile each day leading up to May 25, the last day for seniors.

Kiara Haughton

Sparrows Point High School
(Chapel Hill Elementary, Perry Hall Middle)

Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you during your years as a BCPS student?

At CCBC [the Community College of Baltimore County], I took Psychology 101, and, in that class, I learned that I wanted to pursue a career in psychiatry. It also helped me learn that I love the brain and the many controls it has over our body.

During your years as a BCPS student, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

I am most proud of the fact that I am going to graduate high school. It is the first step into the plans I have for my future.

What’s next for you?

I am ready to step out into the world and gain more knowledge about the cultures and people around me.

What are your college or employment plans after graduation?

I plan to attend Notre Dame of Maryland the fall of 2018.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In the next 10 years, I see myself in a comfortable community working in a job that satisfies not only my needs, but curiosity and my drive for exploration.

Favorite book: The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

Favorite quote: “It’s different cultures that make the world go round at the end of the

Day.” – Samantha Fox

Favorite movie: Maze Runner

“Kiara Haughton sets the standard for ethics, integrity, and honor. The oldest of three children being raised by a single mother, Kiara helps her devoted mother tremendously, and is a devoted mentor for her younger brother and sister. Academically, she ranks very near the top of her class and spends her summers doing mission work in Trinidad and Tobago. Kiara volunteers in the Johns Hopkins medical program, bringing comfort to elderly patients. Kiara attended the Girls’ State program, where she learned much about our government system and how it works.

“Kiara is involved in many service and academic organizations at school including Key Club, Peer Helpers, Principal’s Advisory Council, School News Crew, SADD, Culinary Club, National Honor Society, Science Honor Society (Vice President), Math Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society.  She contributes so much in so many ways to the success of our school and all of our students.“
