Hannah Jenarine

Pikesville High School

Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you during your years as a BCPS student?

Creating the Students of Success Secrets of Success, and Women’s Empowerment; clubs that have contributed to the progression of others by giving students the tools they need to succeed in school and in life has impacted me throughout my years as a BCPS student. Through this experience, I have discovered my passion for public speaking and my desire to empower others to endeavor to be the best they can possibly be.

During your years as a BCPS student, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

I am most proud of learning more about who I am and what my values and priorities are. I have discovered that no one knows you better than yourself; you just have to take the time to listen to what your body needs and what your heart is telling you to do. You don’t HAVE to be influenced by the expectations of others. Just trust your own gut and believe in yourself because at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

What’s next for you? What are your college or employment plans after graduation?

My next step is attending college at the University of Central Florida.  My cardinal purpose in life is to create opportunities for those living in less developed and impoverished countries. I want to plan global projects to help refugees in Yemen, Syria, Serbia, Iraq, and others. I want to create a safe haven for those living in abject poverty. I want to empower women and children to take a stand for their rights and aspire to follow their heart and dreams. Thus, in order for me to do this, I need to learn all I can about international development and project management. I also need to spend my time volunteering.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself as the person I wish to become; that is, someone with great executive ability, poise and judgement, confidence, independence, being present in daily moments, being able to laugh at myself, being my own person, and essentially, finding myself, and dedicating my life to a cause bigger than myself. I don’t want to say that I will become “this” because in truth, we don’t know what the future holds. I just want to make the most out of my days and be purposeful in my every pursuit.
