Celebrating Our 2018 Graduating Seniors

We will be posting a new graduating senior profile each day leading up to May 25, the last day for seniors.

Madison Wood

Overlea High School

Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you during your years as a BCPS student?

Mrs. Moffa, my former AVID teacher, had a HUGE impact on me during these four years. I was never a confident student, but having her as a teacher from my freshman to junior year completely changed that. She taught me valuable lessons, how to be a better student, and helped with my journey to college. I never dreamed I would be where I am, and I know I would not be here without her.

During your years as a BCPS student, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

I am most proud that I got waitlisted for an Ivy-League school. It may not seem like much, but as someone who never had the confidence to apply themselves, I am still so shocked and joyed that they would consider me as a potential student.

What’s next for you? What are your college or employment plans after graduation?

I plan to attend Notre Dame of Maryland University, and study biology. After there, I hope to go into medical school.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself living in some small apartment in New York City trying to establish myself as a dermatologist.

Favorite Book:

“Assata: An Autobiography”

Favorite Quote:

“If I am worth anything later, then I am worth something now. For wheat is still wheat, even if people think it is a grass in the beginning.” –Vincent Van Gogh

“In the one year that I have had the pleasure in knowing Madison Wood, she has amazed me with her drive to succeed, and I could not be more proud to say that I taught her. However, the best part of it all is that she has also taught me. Her resilience, sense of humor, and motivation is impressive and infectious. From reading her college application essays, to watching her speak in the Black History Month Oratory Speech Competition, she never ceases to amaze me, and I know she will have the same impact on everyone this summer while representing Overlea and BCPS speaking at the AVID Summer Institute in Philadelphia. “
