Chelsea Mitchell

George Washington Carver Center for Arts & Technology
(Hernwood Elementary, Sudbrook Magnet Middle)

Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you during your years as a BCPS student?

Since middle school I have auditioned for and participated in the dance company at Carver Center. Being in the dance company has provided me with numerous opportunities whether it is performing, choreographing, or teaching. I believe this had the most positive impact on me as a student because this is where I spent the most time. I learned to create using my own art, take care of myself through nutritional information, and to use other art forms to inspire movement. Considering the fact that my goal is to be successful in the performing arts industry, dance company has well prepared me for my future.

During your years as a BCPS student, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

Throughout my years as a BCPS student the accomplishment that I am most proud of is being cast in my first professional job at Baltimore Center Stage; and being a part of the world premiere of “SOUL - The Stax Musical.” This accomplishment is the culmination of the education and support of many teachers and administrators during my BCPS career.

What’s next for you? What are your college or employment plans after graduation?

Next year I will be attending Point Park University Conservatory of the Arts to receive my BFA in Dance. If things go as planned, after graduation, I would like to be a member of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre second company.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years I see myself fulfilling my dream. Traveling the world and sharing my talent to uplift people.

Favorite quote:

“For I know the plans I have for you, declared the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

- Jeremiah 29:11

“Chelsea is a model student who has proven over the years that good things come with hard work. She works as hard, if not harder, on her academic classes, as she does in her dance classes. She is committed to succeeding, which is evident in the tremendous growth she has demonstrated since entering Carver Center as a freshman. She is well respected by all of the faculty, administrators, staff, and students at Carver Center. Chelsea brings a smile to all who meet her, because she always has a smile on her face.”
