Create Your Map for Success

A successful online learner carries a map just like a traveler on a new adventure. You need to create your own map - a map that clearly states your goals and projected outcomes. It is important to identify what you want to do and how you will be able to assess your own success along the way. |
Once you begin working in the online learning environment, it is easy to get lost. Consulting your map will help you stay focused and engaged in learning. Technology can fail and life can certainly throw curve balls your way. Having your map will help keep you on track.
Think about the following questions as you prepare for Activity 3: Creating a Map for Success.
- Why are you thinking about taking an online course?
- How will your success in this course benefit you?
- What obstacles do you anticipate as you participate in your online course?
- Where will you work on your online coursework?
- Who will help you if you have problems when you are working in the course site?

Activity 3
Creating a Map for Success
Note: In order for this activity to work properly, you must enable macros on your computer. Use How to Enable Macros to enable the interactive feature on your computer.
- Click on the link Creating a Map for Success to open the interactive PowerPoint show.
- When prompted, select SAVE and browse to your designated location.
- Open the PowerPoint show and maximize your browser window to the largest setting.
- As you work through the show, use the text boxes to record your responses to each of the prompts.
- Double-click the Disk to save each of your slides.
- Use the Red Arrow on each slide to move to the next slide.
- When you have completed the entire slide show, click the Printer to print your slides and then exit from the browser.
- Place the set of slides in your Online Learning Essentials folder.

Activity 3 provides you with an opportunity to create a map for your new learning experience. Save your map because you may want to refer to it at a later time!
