Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston and 99 other invited superintendents from across the nation gathered at the Scholastic Superintendents' Leadership Summit in October to discuss the summit theme, "Using the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to Accelerate and Demonstrate Learning." The superintendents discussed their successes in improving student achievement and communicating with constituents and heard from special guest speakers: Dick Robinson, president, CEO, and chairman of the Board, Scholastic Inc.; Cecilia Rouse, Ph.D., member, President's Council of Economic Advisers; Tony Wagner, co-director, Harvard University Center for Leadership, and author of The Global Achievement Gap; Michael Casserly, Ph.D., executive director, Council of Great City Schools, and Bill Daggett, Ph.D., president, International Center for Leadership in Education.
