Hereford High School is a comprehensive public high school, which opened in 1909. It is the northern most school in Baltimore County, enrolling 1420 students in grades 9-12 from the Pennsylvania line south to Cockeysville, and eastern Harford County line west to Carroll County, a total of about one-third the acreage in Baltimore County. Hereford is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and by the Maryland State Department of Education, and is a member of PCACAC and College Boards. Since the 1993-94 school year, Hereford students have followed a daily organized schedule consisting of four 85 minute periods plus a 30 minute enrichment period.
Hereford has a long standing reputation of academic excellence. Approximately 94% of the graduating class attends college. In the April 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 editions of "Newsweek", Hereford High School was named as one of the top 5% best high schools in America. In 2008 "U.S. News and World Report" rated Hereford as one of the top 200 public high schools in the nation, and in 2008 "Baltimore Magazine" ranked Hereford High as the best public high school in the metropolitan regio
