Mission Statement
The Office of World Languages improves student achievement through the design, implementation, and assessment of ESOL, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish curricula, preK-12. In addition, the office oversees the identification and selection of appropriate textbooks and resources, and provides support and training to teaching staff. Further, the office staff assesses and identifies English Language Learners and works collaboratively with schools and community groups to coordinate and deliver services to immigrant families.
Goals
Continue to prepare updated World Language curriculum guides and exams that align with state and national standards.
Provide support that leads to improved student achievement on countywide exams and state assessments, and promote increased participation in national assessments.
Collaborate with schools as they identify and implement strategies to meet Adequate Yearly Progress goals for English Language Learners.
Provide direct services and support to schools, English Language Learners, and their families as outlined in the Master Plan. |
