“If
you can, then you can teach, you can change the
world” a quote from Audrey Flack. Several
Baltimore County Art teachers attended the 2007
National Art Educators Association Conference in
New York City March 13-18. The conference
was an excellent opportunity for professional development. Two
of the keynote speakers were Daniel Pink, author “A
Whole New Mind” and Audrey Flack, painter/sculptor. We
were honored to have our teachers present some
of their outstanding practices and we were equally
proud to see Ann Summerson recognized nationally
as the National Junior Art Honor Society Sponsor
of the Year.
Congratulations
to the art students at Orems Elementary. Under
the direction of their visual art teacher, Grace
Hulse, they created beautiful mosaic murals for
their classroom. Third and fifth grade
students each created a garden element (flower,
critter, insect) from clay. After glazing
and firing they selected a spot for it on the wood
background. Broken ceramic tiles donated
from a tile store were used to fill in the background. Fifth
grade students came in after school to complete
the mural. The mural was attached to the wall behind
the art room sink and counter and grouted.
Congratulations
to the Towson High School National Art Honor Society
for hosting their Fourteenth Annual Edible Art
Exhibit. This exhibit has become a huge community
event with over one hundred entries and hundreds
of students, parents, and friends in attendance. After
the judging, all of the guests “EAT THE ART!”

And I can!! Because of you. Thank you for my freedom. Love Eden"

Parkville Middle and Towson High Celebrate 2007 with calendars filled with student art.

Towson High students can be proud to see their
work in full color adorning a 2007 calendar. As
you page through the calendar you can celebrate
the incredible talents of the Towson students and
wonderful accomplishments of the department.

The Parkville Middle calendar was created as a landscape project where students explored the works of Wolf Kahn, Richard Diebenkorn, and April Gornick before using digital photography manipulated in Adobe Photoshop to influence and plan their final charcoal drawings. These wonderful works can be seen throughout the calendar.
Congratulations to the following students whose art work was published in the end of year budget report.
