Brown’s Orchard’s and Farm Markets
Featured Artist - Sam Georgieff
We enjoy promoting local artists and musicians! Every two months we will feature an example of a different local artist’s work on the wall behind our checkouts. If you wish to purchase this or another piece of the artist’s work, you may contact that person. Enjoy! (If you know a York County artist who would like to display as a “Featured Artist”, please contact suemyers@brownsorchards.com. Sam Georgieff started drawing at age 3 when he colored his parent's black and white TV. He wanted a color TV! (It didn't work.) Sam is a Fine Artist/Illustrator whose inspiration comes from the rural setting of Poor Dog Farm - the farm and studio he owns in beautiful southern PA. The house is an old Victorian and the farm buildings are still standing. It's a very rural area and Sam says most of his inspiration comes from the land. The old farm, animals and nature are always in the body of his work. For more information, and to check out Sam's extensive gallery of animals in hats, visit www.poordogfarm.etsy.comEmail Sam at sgeorgieff@verizon.net |

Why Art? Maintaining Your Rigorous Sequential Program
The Visual Arts teachers joined together for a great day of Professional Development at General John Stricker on August 26, 2009. Topics included studio activities, assessment in the art classroom, integrating reading and writing, and working with the gifted and talented student to name a few. The day was full of energy and anticipation for an exciting 2009/10 school year.

WHY ART?
The Visual Arts Department would like to thank the Baltimore County Commission on Arts & Sciences for granting us financial support for our 2009-2010 Artist in Residency program.
Students at Woodlawn Middle had the opportunity to work with Guest Artist Amanda Pellerin and their teacher Vernon Fains to create a ceramic mural based on a community theme that is being installed as a permanent work of art in the school cafeteria.
Guest Artist Duane Sabiston worked with students and teachers at Milford Mill Academy to develop the painting program. Artist Sabiston’s final email started with “Excitement is in the Air at Milford Mill!!!!!” Teacher Josh Torres stated that painting students made leaps and bounds. “It felt good to see the improvement.”
Chesapeake High also reported that students were working hard and showing signs of growth with a final statement from Mr. Sabiston, “It’s good to hear about successes driven by enthusiasm.”
We are grateful to County Executive, James T. Smith, Jr. and the Baltimore County Council: S.G. Samuel Moxley, 1st District, Kevin Kamenetz, 2nd District, T. Bryan McIntire, 3rd District, Kenneth N. Oliver, 4th District, Vincent J. Gardina, 5th District, Joseph Bartenfelder, 6th District, and John Olszewski, Sr., 7th District.
We also thank Gloria Manges and members of her staff for their support.
Alyssa Stokes, New Town High School, will be exhibiting her artwork at Miss Irene’s Restaurant, September 7 - October 4, 2009. The reception for the “Alyssa Stokes – Photographs, Jane Hill Stokes – Collages” Exhibit will be Monday, September 7, 6:30 – 9:00 pm.
