Frequently Asked Questions
Psychologists
- Would a psychologist
ever be a case manager? If a student has an IEP with
psychological services only the psychologist could be the
case manager. This is a rare instance
- We have a time-out
room that is staffed by a guidance counselor and a psychologist.
What service can be billed? The psychologist can bill
for psychological services but the guidance counselor cannot
bill for services.
- Please explain the
billing conflict between Psychological and Social Work Services.
For Medical Assistance billing purposes, services provided
by a Psychologist and a Social Worker are congruent. As
a result, if you provide a service, and a Social Worker
submits an encounter data form for the same date and same
service, Medical Assistance will only pay for one service.
- What should we do
if we serve a school that has a school-based health center?
If you provide services to a school that has a school-based
health center, your procedures for the submission of data
will remain the same as for the last year. Any adjustments
to the procedures will be directed to your attention in
writing.
- How many services
can we submit for in a day? You may only document one
encounter data form per student per day, regardless of the
number of services provided to a student on that given day.
- What determines eligibility
for Medicaid? For most families, the determination of
Medicaid eligibility is financial. In addition, a child
who has a permanent handicapping condition may also qualify
regardless of family income.
- I am a Psychologist
who recently participated in the IEP Team process with the
Department Chair and other Team members. How many of us
can submit encounter data forms for Case Manager Services?
Only the Case Manager designated for the student can submit
an encounter data form for case management services. If
you provided a related service to the student on the same
day as the IEP Team meeting, you may submit an encounter
for the service.
