MCHP / Maryland Children's
Health Program
- Can we send the Maryland
Children Health Program information to all families?
Yes, the Maryland Children Health Program is for all children
who meet the eligibility requirements.
- Can all students apply
for the Maryland Children's Health Plan Program, not just
those in special education? The Maryland Children's
Health Program is available to children and youth/adolescents
under the age of 19 and pregnant women of any age whose
income is within certain limits. Contact the Office of Third
Party Billing if you need an application and/or information
sheet.
- What is different
about the MCHP Information? The MCHP family annual income
changed. The families are now allowed to make a small amount
more and still qualify for the program.
- Which students will
qualify for The Maryland Children's Health Program (MCHP)?
Children who have average to low-income up to the age
of 19 and pregnant women of any age if they have a family
income that is at the following chart:

- Please explain the
Maryland Children's Health Program (MCHP) to us. The
Maryland Children's Health Program is considered to be an
expansion of Maryland Medicaid. The program is designed
to replace Maryland Kids Count and the Pregnant Women's
and Children Program. Families may now have an income of
$37,704.00 for a family of four and qualify for the program,
which has dental and vision benefits. All nurses and social
workers have received information regarding the program.
Nurses also have applications that the parents may complete
and send into the Baltimore County Department of Health.
Several outreach workers in each area determine eligibility.
Children who qualify for this program will also become eligible
for Third Party Billing, if they are also enrolled in the
special education program.
- What is the Maryland
Children's Health Program Premium?
The MCHP Premium program is designed for families who do
not qualify for the MCHP program. This new program allows
families with a slightly higher income to be eligible for
Medical Assistance. The family has to pay a monthly fee
for this insurance coverage.
