Kenwood High School science students conduct cancer research with grant from Target (originally reported by Amy P. Lookingbill, April 22, 2009)
Thanks to the generosity of one local retailer, some Kenwood
High School students were able to be real scientists for a day.
Science teacher Alison Maier organized the field trip through a
connection she has at the hospital and also applied for the
Target field trip grant. Maier and her students received $700 to
pay for the trip.
During
the trip students used equipment to study the effects of smoking
on mice. 2009 Baltimore County Public Schools Envirothon Results
The Office of Science wishes to congratulate Western School of Technology and Environmental Science as the first place winner of this year's BCPS Envirothon competition. The Western team, sponsored by science teachers Kim Bickerstaff and Mark Kather, will attend the Maryland State Envirothon competition at Mount St. Mary's University from June 16--18, 2009. Congratulations also go out to Hereford High School for taking second place, and Perry Hall High School for taking third place.
The following high schools also participated in the 2009 BCPS Envirothon competition; George Washington Carver Center, Catonsville High School, Chesapeake High School, Dulaney High School, Eastern Technical High School, Franklin High School, Lansdowne High School, New Town High School, Owings Mills High School, Sparrows Point High School, and Towson High School. A special thanks it extended to all coaches and students who helped make this event the most successful one ever!
Saturday Morning Science Lectures The Hackerman Academy at Towson University will be sponsoring a Saturday Morning Science Lecture on a wide variety of topics. See the Spring 2009 Schedule to see the dates and topics presented each Saturday. All programs are held in Smith Hall room 326 on the Towson University Campus. Two programs will be presented for each date. The first session will be from 10:00 am - 11:30 am and the second program will be from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm. All sessions are free and open to the public. Dr. Don Thomas, former NASA astronaut and space shuttle crew member is currently the Director of the Hackerman Academy of Science and Mathematics at Towson University. |
