Essential Question: How do organisms interact with each other in the ecosystems of the Shoreline, Wetland, Meadow, and Forest?

This field study is an integral component of the 5th grade science program and is supported by a 2-week Eco-Trekkers classroom curriculum and pre-trip school visits. During the field study students will investigate ecosystems of the Shoreline, Wetland, Meadow, and Forest. All fifth grade students will attend the program at no cost. Two buses will be provided to transport students to the facilities.
Outdoor Science will schedule this program for every school. Your school will be notified of your field study date.

      1. competition for space, food and water
      2. predator/prey

      4. producer, consumer, decomposer
    2. identify and describe the interactions of organisms with the non-living environment, such as water, soil, and temperature.
  2. Indicator: D. Flow of Matter and Energy (VSC)
    1. recognize and explain that some source of energy is needed for all organisms to grow, survive, and reproduce.
      1. identify the sun as the primary source of energy for organisms.
      2. recognize that the plants use the sun’s energy to produce their own food.
      3. recognize that a continuous supply of energy in the form of food is needed for organisms to stay alive and grow.
