Safe Schools

schoolThe Office of Safe Schools is the liaison for the Baltimore County Police Department to the Baltimore County Public Schools. In collaboration with the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools and the Department of Student Support Services, the Office of Safe Schools works closely with the staff in coordinating all programs and services provided to the school system by the police department. This interagency partnership is designed to help ensure the maintenance of safe and orderly learning environments in all schools. The Office of Safe Schools also serves as the liaison with the fire department in helping the school system develop the best emergency management plans so that all interagency partners will know exactly how they are to respond if there is ever a crisis in any of our schools or offices.

Additionally, the Office of Safe Schools:

  • Consults with school administrators, staff, and parents on safety issues
  • Coordinates Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) and Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) Programs
  • Assists with establishing protocols for the management of emergencies
  • Assists with the implementation of the School Resource Officers’ Program (SRO)
