Mission

The Department of Special Programs, PreK-12 provides quality leadership and services for all students and the learning community to create opportunities for engaging learning experiences that encourage students achievement and build confidence in school and beyond.

Description of the Office
The Office of Special Programs, PreK-12 is responsible for providing leadership to system staff in programming for individual students and in planning, providing, and overseeing programs for students in the following areas: Gifted and Talented and Magnet Programs; Visual Arts, Athletics, Music, PE, Health, Dance, Service Learning, Title I and Grants Assistance, and extra curricular and extended curricular activities such as Forensics and National Honor Society. The Department provides oversight for system responsibilities, such as Middle States Accreditation (AFG), Out-of-State/Overnight Field Trips and foreign travel, and Public Charter Schools.

Goals

  • Provide leadership, advice, and assistance in programming for individual students.
  • Initiate, promote, and provide services to students participating in extra curricular and extended curricular activities.
  • Assess the scope and quality of services provided to students in Special Programs, PreK-12, providing oversight for necessary adjustments.
  • Facilitate the development of system technology standards for student and teacher application of technology and instructional software, and technology-based instructional activities.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with appropriate external partners to benefit Special Programs, PreK-12.
  • Increase resources to support specific extra curricular and extended curricular activities.
  • Improve services to schools participating in AFG (Middle States Evaluation).
