MARYLAND APPROVED ALTERNATIVE
PREPARATION PROGRAM (MAAPP)
For the 2010-2011 School Year
Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) are seeking candidates in the core subject fields who would like to teach mathematics, science, English, or world languages at the middle school or high school level and who do not meet requirements for teacher certification. These candidates may be eligible to participate in an alternative pathway toward certification through the BCPS/Towson University or College of Notre Dame of Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Program.

- Fall (2010) employment for those who meet eligibility requirements by May 30, 2010 and successfully complete course requirements during Summer 2010

- Significantly reduced tuition for required coursework at the graduate level at Towson University or College of Notre Dame

- Courses are graduate level and will be accepted towards a Masters program at Towson University or College of Notre Dame

- Eligibility for a Standard Professional Certificate I (SPCI) upon successful completion of the MAAPP Program

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s or higher degree with 36 semester hours or 30 credits in specific content area
- 2.75 GPA or better in 36 hours
- Qualifying scores on *Praxis I (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) and *Praxis II in content knowledge
Effective April 1, 2008, the following tests are accepted in lieu of Praxis I:
- SAT composite score of 1100 (prior to 4/95, the SAT Score Equivalent is 1000);
- ACT composite score of 24; and
- GRE composite score of 1000.

Timeline
- The Office of Graduate Studies for the College of Notre Dame is having an Open House on Thursday, November 12, 2009 in Fourier Hall – Library Room 103. The scheduled time for the meeting is 5:30 p.m. beginning with refreshments and registration. Break-out meetings will be held between 6:00-8:00 p.m. in individual classrooms. Interested MAAPP candidates should stop first on the ground floor Graduate Studies Office between 5:30-6:00 p.m. to pick up a parking pass and folder.
The College of Notre Dame Open house on Thursday is for English and World Languages only!
- Submit BCPS Employment Application, resume, 3 professional references on the BCPS form and final official transcript(s) by March 12, 2010 to begin program in summer 2010
- Complete Praxis I and Praxis II (see above). Copies of score reports must be submitted to BCPS by May 31, 2010 to begin program in summer 2010
- Following receipt of application documents and references, interviews will be conducted with those who meet eligibility requirements
- Selection of candidates will occur by June 1, 2010
- Summer coursework will begin in July 2010
