New Resident Magnet Process

For NEW Baltimore County Residents ONLY

Letter of Interest forms for the 2010-2011 school year are now available.  The New Resident Letter of Interest Deadline is September 3, 2010.

To be eligible for a BCPS Magnet program a child or student must meet the age and residency requirements for enrollment in the Baltimore County Public Schools at the time of application. Students who are homeless are entitled to apply to a magnet program just as any other student. (Please refer to PS 512 – www.bcps.org/offices/sss/manuals.html.)
Parents/guardians of students who are new residents of Baltimore County after the November 30, 2009 magnet application deadline and before the start of the 2010-2011 school year (August 30, 2010) may submit a Letter of Interest with the required documentation to the Office of Magnet Programs. The completed Letter of Interest must be postmarked or hand-delivered by September 3, 2010.

  • Applicants should carefully select programs based on specific interests, talents and abilities. Program descriptions are available at the right side of this page.
  • Students may apply to one (1) program per school in up to three (3) schools.
Please Note: Magnet Programs may be restricted, based on a student’s grade level, and admission to a magnet program does not guarantee that BCPS transportation will be provided.
  • Use the Magnet Schools Map on the left side of this page for a visual representation of the location of schools with magnet programs.
  • Carefully read all information about the magnet assessments for each program in which you are interested. Guidelines for middle and high school magnet program assessments are available on the left side of this page and from the Office of Magnet Programs.
  • The parent/guardian must complete and sign the Letter of Interest for new residents.
  • Applicants for middle and high school magnet programs must attach a copy of the final report card for the previous year and the most recent report card for the current year. The report cards should show the grades earned for each quarter/trimester.
  • Parents/Guardians must submit documentation showing establishment of residency after the November 30, 2009 magnet application deadline and before the start of the 2010-2011 school year (August 30, 2010).  For information on acceptable forms of documentation, see Superintendents’ Rule 5150. Residency requirements do not apply to homeless students who are eligible for enrollment in Baltimore County Public Schools as determined by the Homeless Education Office Liaison.
  • The Letter of Interest, report cards, and documentation verifying residency must be postmarked or hand-delivered by September 3, 2010 to:

    Office of Magnet Programs
