Law & Public Policy and Law Related Careers
Whether a student is interested in pursuing a career in the legal profession or in law enforcement, Baltimore County offers a magnet program tailored to their needs. Both offer simulated practice in a courtroom setting housed within the school, as well as technology resources for legal research.
Law and Public Policy: An interdisciplinary magnet program which uses topics and skills in law and public policy to develop strong communication, writing, and presentation skills for the highly able college-bound student. Coursework emphasizes technology and student research. Students participate in field experiences, job shadowing opportunities in forensic science, law, and government professions, with an optional internship for seniors.
Law Related Careers: Students are prepared upon completion of the program to enter the fields of law enforcement, security and loss prevention, and corrections. The Baltimore County Police Academy selects a limited number of graduates to join the Cadet School, the first step in becoming a police officer. The program is also linked with the community college program, Criminal Justice, and students will be able to enter the community college with preparation in areas such as enforcement, parole, and probation.
Legal and Protective Services – Whether students are interested in pursuing a career in the legal profession or in law enforcement, this program will meet their needs. The program introduces students to topics in law and public policy, while helping students develop strong communication skills. Coursework emphasizes technology and student research.
