Automotive Careers
Baltimore County offers two options for students interested in automotive careers:
Automotive Service Technology: Automotive Technology is a program that introduces students to the career field of automotive service and repair. Students are required to perform selected manipulative activities outlined in National Automotive Technician’s Education Foundation (NATEF) requirements using specialized tools and equipment on late-model vehicles. A variety of teaching methods are used to enhance the learning process by reinforcing critical thinking and academic skills which prepare students with electronics diagnosis, troubleshooting, and customer relations skills needed by today's automotive technicians. Students earn Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified skills through computerized automotive simulators, shop demonstrations, diagnostic testing and hands-on activities performed on shop vehicles.
Automotive Collision Repair: This program will provide students with the related academic, critical thinking, customer service, computer technology, work place readiness and technical skills necessary to succeed in the collision repair and automotive refinishing technical field. Classroom and hands-on instruction will prepare students with Industry-Collision Repair (1-CAR) and Automotive Service Excellence/ National Automotive Technology Education Foundation (ASE/NATEF) entry-level employment skills. Training will include automotive collision non-structural repair, structural repair, welding and cutting, refinishing, estimating, plastic repair, mechanical and electrical repair skills essential to complete restoration of interior and exterior damage on today's modern vehicles. Students who complete the program successfully may earn articulated credit with the industry recognized Collision Technician Apprenticeship Program (C-TAP).
